Starting a New Student Organization

If you are interested in creating a student organization, some categories require communication with and approval from an additional campus partner. Please contact the Center for Student Involvement (studentorgs@udayton.edu) for further information and complete the Potential Organization Interest Form in 1850.

Potential Student Organization Requirements:

  • Organizations must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in the Official Recognition of Undergraduate Student Organizations Policy.
  • Only current UD students may submit the Potential Organization Interest Form.
  • Must be submitted the semester you intend to become recognized, during the submission window.
  • Potential organizations should be unique from any other already-recognized student organization.
  • All organizations must follow UD policies regarding anti-discrimination and anti-hazing.
  • All organizations, potential or recognized, must adhere to UD's policies and guidelines.
  • All founding members must complete the Anti-Hazing training provided by the university.

Starting a student organization at UD requires working with and following guidelines from CSI. Any new Greek-letter organizations must be affiliated with a national/international organization. No local/independent Greek-letter organizations are permitted on campus (unless established prior to August 23, 2021).

Interest/First Steps

This form is where you will express interest in creating or restarting a student organization. You will fill out information regarding leadership, engagement, and interested members.

After receipt of Interest form

CSI + Campus Partners Review

If applicable

Any potential new organization that correlates to another area's purview on campus (SoE, SBA, MEC, etc) will be reviewed by both CSI and the necessary campus stakeholders.

1-2 weeks after review of Interest Form

During this in person meeting, any potential questions or concerns will be communicated between CSI and the interested students. Next steps will be shared as well as an understanding of what it means to be a RSO (Registered Student Organization).

Rather than general interest, the application form dives deep into a potential organization's mission statement, executive board, constitution, logo, etc. This application is what CSI reviews in-depth, so please fill this out thoughtfully.

Provisional Approval

Congratulations! After review and any necessary changes, your organization may granted provisional status. Under this, groups can book space, meet, host events, etc. An 1850 site will be activated. Full approval comes at the end of each semester.
