Special Interest Housing (SIH) allows recognized student organizations to live together in dedicated campus residences that reflect and advance their shared mission, values, and community goals. As physical extensions of their organizations, Special Interest Legacy Houses play a distinct role in shaping the culture of our Student Neighborhoods. Because these homes serve as visible hubs for their members and the broader campus community, participating student organizations are held to high standards of leadership, conduct, and neighborhood responsibility.
- Approval Required: Recognized Student Organizations are not permitted to operate an organizational house (University-owned or otherwise) unless approved through the Special Interest Housing process.
- Adviser Requirement: Every Special Interest House must have a designated faculty or staff adviser.
- Occupancy: Organizations are expected to maintain full occupancy of Special Interest Houses.
- Community Development: Residents of Special Interest Houses are expected to contribute in meaningful ways to the student neighborhoods by meeting expectations set by Housing and Residence Life.
- Walk-throughs: Special Interest Houses are required to participate in scheduled facility walk-throughs, which may be initiated and conducted by representatives from the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), Housing and Residence Life (HRL), or Facilities Management to ensure house safety, maintenance, and compliance with campus standards.

Alcohol: The use of alcohol containers, packaging, or signage for decoration is not permitted in common areas of Special Interest Houses/Addresses.
- Special Interest Houses serve as the physical representation of a student organization’s values, mission, and presence on campus. Because these homes are designed to build an inclusive community for all organization members, including those under the age of 21, and to foster positive, respectful relationships with the surrounding neighborhood, common spaces must reflect an environment where every member and guest feels welcome.
- Signage: Only approved Special Interest Houses are permitted to display signage identifying the property by their Recognized Student Organization name. Additional expectations surrounding signage will be discussed prior to construction/installation.
- Compliance & Accountability: Receiving citations or warnings from any University official may lead to an immediate review of the organization's Special Interest Housing status.
