• Paint / Tie-Dye

Painting/tie-dye activities are only permitted at specific locations on the KU Central Mall and at ArtStreet. A tarp must be placed on the grass; you cannot paint or tie-dye on any hardscape surface. All paint must be water-based, such as fabric paint and/or acrylic paint. Your organization’s faculty/staff adviser, or other faculty/staff member, must be present during the activity. Any damage to grounds/facilities or clean-up required after the organization has left the event space will result in the organization being invoiced by Facilities Management.

    • In partnership with Housing and Residence Life, they have provided tarps that are available for student organizations to check out for outdoor events. There are a limited number of tarps available and students can check out the tarps between 8 AM and 8 PM. Student IDs will be required. The Desk Assistants at 461 Kiefaber will be able to assist you.
  • Dunk Tanks

Only one dunk tank event will be approved per day on a first-come first-served basis.  Events with dunk tanks can only take place in two locations: Humanities Plaza and the KU Patio/Central Mall near the fountain.  Dunk tanks must be placed on pavers and not in the grass.

    • Dunk tanks require a contract; please register your event and have the contract to CSI at least 4 weeks prior to your event.
    • To get water for your dunk tank, you will need to complete a facilities management work order to get access to the water key and hose.
    • Individuals sitting on the dunk tank seat must complete liability waivers.

Weather can impact the safety of a dunk tank.  A dunk tank can not be used in adverse weather conditions that include lightning, hail, or high winds.  CSI may cancel a dunk tank event if the air temperature is expected to drop below 50°F at any time water is in the tank or when temperatures during the event drop below 70°F.

    • Individuals sitting on the dunk tank seat must be rotated every 20 minutes to prevent cold-related injuries.
