Awards, Gifts, and Prizes Policy
Student organizations providing awards, gifts, or prizes should familiarize themselves with the University's Awards, Gifts, and Prizes Policy.
Cash & Gift Cards
If a group wishes to give away gift cards, they must truly be given as a gift or award. They cannot be used to reimburse individuals or used as payments. Gift cards should be for a specific location/store/restaurant and not be the credit card-type of gift card.
- Gift card purchases cannot exceed $100.
- Gift cards must be given away as gifts. They are not to be used by the student organization to purchase merchandise.
- Gift cards and prizes must be given away within 10 days from purchase. They cannot be kept for future events.
For all Cash/Gift Card gifts, awards, and prizes, you must email studentorgsmoney@udayton.edu to provide the following information to CSI, along with the itemized receipt:
- Full name (first and last) of recipient
- Student recipient's UID
- Item that was received
- Exact dollar amount of item received; do not round dollar amounts
- Reason recipient received item
Non-Cash Gifts, Awards, and Prizes
All non-cash awards, gifts or prizes valued at $100 or less may be considered de minimis. De minimis awards, gifts and prizes may only be provided on an occasional basis. Anything greater than $100 represents taxable compensation to the individual and is subject to the appropriate federal, state and employment tax withholdings, as well as included on an individual’s year-end tax document.
If the dollar amount is over $100.00, you must email studentorgsmoney@udayton.edu to provide the following information to CSI, along with the itemized receipt:
- Full name (first and last) of recipient
- Student recipient's UID
- Item that was received
- Exact dollar amount of item received; do not round dollar amounts
- Reason recipient received item
Student Government Funding Note
- SGA funding cannot be used to purchase gifts, awards, or prizes of any kind.
