All Recognized Student Organizations must represent the campus community in a way that reflects the values UD espouses.
Student Organization Conduct
All student organizations, while on- and off-campus, are responsible for following the Student Standards of Behavior and Code of Conduct↗️. Discipline issues arising from organization behavior are handled through Community Standards & Civility (CSC) supported by the Center for Student Involvement.
Student Organization Conduct Exemption Clause
CSI, along with the Office of Community Standards and Civility, encourages organizations to promote a safe and healthy environment by proactively and immediately reporting any possible, imminent, or occurring violations of CSI guidelines, the Student Code of Conduct, or University policies at registered or unregistered RSO events.
Organizations who qualify for conduct exemption will not be held responsible for Code of Conduct violations unless the conduct was egregious in nature. To qualify, an organization must demonstrate:
- Immediate and appropriate action to end all possible, imminent, or occurring violations.
- Notification of appropriate University officials in the moment — faculty/staff adviser, CSI staff, Public Safety, or CSC staff. If unable to reach your adviser and the incident doesn't rise to police/Public Safety level, email studentorgs@udayton.edu.
- Documentation of the incident: detailed description of what happened, all involved persons, timeline, how you responded, who you notified and when, follow-up, and any other pertinent information.
- In-person meeting with CSI staff within 1 business day of the incident (Monday for any weekend incident).
Eligibility for conduct exemption is determined by the Senior Director of CSI and the Dean of Students Office.
Student Organization Officer Conduct
- Leaders and advisers are expected to take an active role in the choices their organization makes. If a leader feels the group is exhibiting inappropriate behavior, intervene — you are fully supported.
- Students serving as elected or appointed officers must be in good disciplinary standing.
