Every recognized student organization at UD falls into one of seven categories. Some categories require additional approval from a campus partner.

Academic

  • Academic student organizations are student-led groups that align with specific academic disciplines, professional fields, or areas of scholarly interest. Some organizations may receive direct support from an academic department on campus and additional requirements and approvals may be required.

Religious/Faith-Based

  • Religious / Faith-Based student organizations at the University of Dayton are student-led groups centered on religious or spiritual growth, religious expression, and/or interfaith dialogue. Additional requirements and approvals are required by Campus Ministry for Religious / Faith-Based organizations.

Special Interest

  • Special interest student organizations are student-led groups formed around shared hobbies, passions, or unique areas of interest. These organizations provide a place for members to discuss issues relevant to them, express interest in a given subject, serve as a support group for students on campus, or act toward the advancement of social interests.

Service & Social Action

  • Service and Social Action student organizations are student-led groups dedicated to community engagement and/or social justice through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Additional requirements and approvals are required by the Center for Social Concern for Service and Social Action organizations.

Recreation

  • Sports clubs at the University of Dayton are student-led teams focused on recreational, instructive, and competitive athletic activities. Additional requirements and approvals are required by Campus Recreation for Sports Club organizations.

Values-Based Greek Letter Organization

  • Values-Based Fraternities and Sororities are student-led organizations with nationally-affiliated chapters from the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), or Panhellenic Council (CPC). Additional requirements and approvals are required by Fraternity and Sorority Life for Values-Based Fraternities and Sororities.

Governing/Coordinating

  • Governing / Coordinating student organizations are student-led groups responsible for representing the student body or groups of peers, overseeing campus-wide initiatives, and supporting other student organizations. Additional requirements and approvals are required by the Center for Student Involvement for Governing/Coordinating organizations.
