I am applying for the University of Dayton's Student Government Association because I want to help ensure that commuter students feel heard, supported, and connected to campus. As a commuter, I understand that students who do not live on campus may experience different challenges accessing events, services, and campus resources. I would strive to be an active listener by creating open opportunities for commuters to share their concerns, ideas, and needs. I also want to connect students with helpful university resources and advocate for solutions that improve their overall campus experience. Through SGA, I hope to represent commuter students responsibly and help strengthen their sense of belonging at the University of Dayton.
My platform is to make commuter students feel heard, supported, and connected to the University of Dayton community. As Representative of Commuter Relations, I hope to be an active listener and a reliable resource for students who commute to campus. I want to create open opportunities for commuters to share their concerns and ideas, then communicate that feedback to SGA and university leadership. I hope to improve commuters' access to campus resources, promote awareness of services and events, and advocate for solutions related to parking, transportation, study spaces, dining, and campus involvement. My goal is to help commuter students feel that they are an important part of campus—not just students who come to class and leave. Through collaboration and consistent communication, I hope to strengthen the commuter experience and create a greater sense of belonging at the University of Dayton.
As a commuter student myself, I have firsthand experience with the challenges of balancing academics, transportation, campus involvement, and finding access to university resources. This perspective will help me understand and represent the needs of other commuter students. I also served as the MVCTC FFA Chapter President, where I developed leadership, communication, organization, and advocacy skills. In that role, I led meetings, coordinated activities, represented chapter members, and listened to different perspectives when making decisions. These experiences prepared me to be an approachable and responsible Representative of Commuter Relations who actively listens to students, communicates their concerns, and works collaboratively to connect them with resources and create positive changes.
I was involved in the Pre-Vet Club and the Insect Ecology Lab, which reflect my initial interest in veterinary medicine and the sciences. Through these experiences, I developed an appreciation for research, collaboration, and hands-on learning. After realizing that accounting and business are my true passions, I transitioned my major and began seeking opportunities to become more involved in business-focused clubs and organizations on campus. These experiences have allowed me to explore different interests, build relationships across campus, and grow as a student while pursuing a field that aligns with my long-term goals.
Having the need to help those around me had always been defined as my weakness; I believe it is my strength. I see a problem and I want to solve it, and if not, I want to help my team solve it. SGA would allow me the opportunity to be an open book to others and paint myself as someone those can come to in times of need. Because of this, I would have the chance to help. That is what I seek.
As I am running for representative of commuter relations, I hope to find a way to make these students feel more involved. Although it is only my first year at the University of Dayton, I have already felt how hard it can be to fit in when you don't live on campus. You don't get built-in friends when you drive to school and back everyday. I want to make students who are struggling feel more included.
I was part of the student government at my high school, holding the title of senator. Additionally, I became captain of my color guard team as a sophomore in high school. Outside of school, I got my first job at 14; I know how to work with a team and get things done efficiently. I also volunteered for the American Red Cross. I believe these positions will prove themselves as beneficial.
