I am running for Representative of International Student Engagement and Support because I would love for every international student to feel fully seen, heard, and supported at the University of Dayton. Moving to a new country and navigating a different educational system brings unique opportunities, but also distinct challenges. I want to serve as a bridge between international students, the Student Government Association, and university administration. My goal is to ensure our perspectives are integrated into campus policies, that resources are easily accessible, and that we build a truly inclusive campus environment where international students can thrive and feel a sense of belonging.
My platform is centered on three core priorities: 1) expanding targeted support and resource accessibility, 2) creating tailored professional development opportunities, and 3) fostering deeper cross-cultural integration across the University of Dayton. By addressing both the logistical and social dimensions of the international student experience, I aim to build a campus environment where every international student feels supported, empowered, and fully integrated into university life. First, I am committed to improving targeted support and essential resource accessibility. Moving to a new country involves navigating complex administrative and lifestyle adjustments, and SGA can play a major role in easing that transition. I will collaborate closely with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), GIA (Global and Intercultural Affairs Center), and other campus departments to expand resources for students. Additionally, I will establish regular SGA and International Student Town Halls to create a direct, ongoing feedback loop where students can voice concerns regarding the university. Second, I plan to expand career development opportunities through targeted professional readiness initiatives. Navigating career preparation as an international student requires tailored guidance and strong networking avenues. I will partner with the Career Services Center and alumni networks to organize specialized career preparation and readiness events, professional workshops, and guest speaker panels featuring successful international alumni and industry leaders. Bringing insightful speakers and practical professional development resources directly to our community will equip students with the confidence and skills needed to build successful futures. Finally, I aim to strengthen cross-cultural integration to build a more inclusive campus community. While international students enrich the cultural fabric of our university, there is often a gap between international and domestic student groups. I will work to build strong partnerships between international student organizations and the broader student body through co-sponsored cultural showcases, peer-mentorship initiatives, and collaborative campus programming. By elevating international heritage celebrations on official university platforms and fostering genuine dialogue, we can create an inclusive environment where diverse backgrounds are genuinely celebrated together.
Having previously served as the Representative of International Student Engagement and Support last academic year, I bring direct experience, established relationships with university administrators, and a proven track record of advocating for international student needs. My prior term provided me with deep insight into campus policy, committee work, and the specific strategies required to deliver tangible results for our community. Beyond SGA, my diverse leadership roles across campus give me a well-rounded foundation in student support, management, and strategic advocacy. As a Resident Assistant in the Global Living Learning Community, I help international students navigate cultural transitions and day-to-day campus living, as well as bridging connections between international and local students. Serving as Student Director for the Sustainability Student Leaders Program and a Consultant at Flyer Consulting has sharpened my project management, team leadership, and analytical problem-solving skills. Additionally, my roles as Executive Advisor for the Burmese Student Association and a Brother in Epsilon Nu Tau Professional Entrepreneurship Fraternity have strengthened my ability to mentor peers, foster cross-cultural community, and approach student representation with an innovative, solutions-oriented mindset.
