Topic: Living within Community and Compromise
Description: Living in a community with others can be a difficult task. Cultivating an agreement that creates expectations of shared space is essential to allow residents to live with others. This meeting aims to help individuals living together in a shared space discuss personal needs and preferences and identify standards for living together, means of communication, and strategies for resolving conflict when it may arise.
General Information
At the start of the academic term, you and your roommates will come together to establish expectations regarding personal space, common areas, use of belongings, managing concerns, and communication. These expectations are captured through the Community Living Agreement so that you can refer back to it or update it throughout the year. If you do not have a roommate, you may still earn this PATH credit by meeting with your RA or Fellow to discuss how to live in the community with others on your floor or in your apartment/suite/house. During a brief meeting with your RA or Fellow, you'll identify ways to be involved in the community and support the standards set forth by that community. You must contact your RA/Fellow directly to schedule your CLA meeting.
Before scheduling a meeting with your roommates and RA/Fellow, each student should complete the CLA individually. Utilize the links below to complete the CLA (via a Google form) appropriate for your experience level. Upon completing the CLA, you will receive an email with a copy of your responses. Please have those responses accessible during your meeting with your RA/Fellow. First years- please note that you may have already completed this during orientation. You should be able to search your email inbox to locate your responses.
