PHIRST PHAM HISTORY

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. & Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. have developed a tradition for their members to reference their association to each other as Lyle Love. This identification is a derivative from a romantic, high-school sweetheart relationship developed in the early 1900's between George Lyle & Ethel Hedgeman. George Lyle is a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. whom was initiated into the Beta chapter of the Fraternity in 1907 by which Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones (One of the seven founders of the Fraternity) assisted in chartering. With George becoming a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, this is one of the solidification's to the idea Ethel Hedgeman had of founding Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc in 1908.

This relationship between is also publicly identified as the Phirst Phamily because they were the first African American Intercollegiate Fraternity & Sorority established.
