Details

Dams have been used as early as 3,000 years before the birth of Christ. These structures provide a range of functions from power supply to recreation. This module examines the types of dams in use today, the purposes that dams serve, and the mechanisms that cause dams to fail. Special emphasis is placed on recent dam failures in Michigan and how dam failures can lead to significant property damage and loss of human life.
