Dayton Investment Banking Academy

"The Academy"

Who We Are

Isaac Grude, founder of the Academy, began networking with upperclassmen and alumni. He quickly learned of the challenges students faced when applying and interviewing for IB internships. He wanted to ensure current and future Flyers did not have to experience these same hardships. In January of 2021, the Dayton Investment Banking Academy (The Academy) was founded. The initiative was led by Isaac Grude with the help of Alec Gizzie, John Coffey, Ryan Dermody, and Kyle Phillips, and the club was founded to help prepare members for a career in Investment Banking and to secure competitive internships & full-time offers. Since 2021, as a club for students with a passion for the Investment Banking (IB) industry to meet and learn from each other. The organization has seen significant growth on campus over the past few years proving a strong and consistent demand amongst students in learning about Investment Banking and related careers.

Three Pillars that Define the Organization

Education Program

The Academy hosts an accelerated 14-week educational bootcamp with curriculum covering accounting, valuation techniques, M&A process, pitchbook preparation, and financial modeling that is led by senior members in the club for new members accepted.

The boot camp is finished with a final project that is presented in front of a "board" at ArkMalibu, a regional investment bank located in Cincinnati, that consists of professionals with experience in the field.

Experiential Learning

The Academy had an exclusive partnership with Kirtland Capital Partners, a private equity firm located in Cleveland, to offer members an private equity internship.

Members gain real-world experience throughout the school year and can expect to work on M&A advisory and debt/equity private placement assignments for companies in a broad range of industries. This is offered to select members of the Academy and is a huge boost to selected members for potential future interviews.

Professional Development

The Academy facilitates a mentorship program to connect UD alumni in the investment banking industry with current new members.

Fireside chats, resume reviews, and mock interviews are all a part of this program to help ready new members.

Additionally, we organize guest speaking events with professionals in the industry to share their experiences and advice with the club and University of Dayton students to gain insight into the real-world experience in the industry.
