ANNOUNCEMENTS

2021-2022 Theme Has Been Identified
Each year, Housing and Residence Life identifies a theme to be incorporated into summer training and continued as a focal point throughout the academic year. This year's theme has been selected and we are excited to announce it will be PERSIST.

per·sist   /p╔Ör╦êsist/ verb. To continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or a course of action in spite of difficulty, opposition, or failure.

Whether you were an HRL staff member last year, or not, we recognize that everyone had something to overcome last year. Everyone experienced difficulties. Many faced opposition, failure. As a team, moving into the new year, we look forward to pressing on as we support one another through challenges, rise about opposition, learn from failures, and experience new successes.

In addition to this overarching theme, training throughout the year will also focus heavily on the following:

  1. Trauma Stewardsip
  2. Mental Health
  3. Academic Success
  4. Diversity/Equity and Inclusion

Additional Employment and Activity Guidelines
Graduate Assistants, Neighborhood Fellows and Resident Assistants are expected to comply with the following guidelines related to additional employment and activities beyond their HRL employment. Hourly employees (such as Desk Assistants, Guest Check-in Attendants, and AVIATE Co-curricular Educators) are not permitted to work more than one university job, per Student Employment policy.

Additional details about additional employment can be found here. Individuals who are interested in submitting a request for additional employment to be approved can do so via the HRL Tracking Log.

Connection Corner

Throughout the year, we want to connect with you, and help you connect with one another.

In each newsletter that is sent, we will pose a question to you and ask you to take a brief moment to respond. Let us know what you're up to. Let us know how you're doing. What is on your mind? What are you struggling with? How can we help?

Scattered here and there we will also ask questions that are fun and quirky and will hopefully help you pause for a brief second in time to just smile, think about something other than obligations and work, and offer a piece of who you are!

We can't wait to learn more about you.

To get us started here's this week's Connect Question:
What are you looking forward to this next year? What hopes do you have for 2021-2022?

Welcome New Professional Staff!

Staff Assignments

As outlined in all offer letters, it is important to remember that staff assignments may change throughout the course of the summer as individuals choose to resign, enrollment numbers shift, University needs (such as quarantine/isolation housing) are identified, and floor gender ratios are finalized, among other factors.

While we will do our best to minimize disruption to staff placements, in the event that any individual is reassigned to a new assignment and/or community, a member from Leadership will communicate these changes directly and in advance of arrival. That said, please hold any communication about placement from Housing Assignments as tentative until August.
