Hello Flyers!
Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! As we inch ever closer to move-in and the beginning of the school year, I have a few announcements to make.
Upcoming Events
Big news! The UDDGC will be making an appearance at Up the Orgs this year!!! This is a huge moment for the growth of our club and we are hoping this will help us create an incredible community on campus that is unlike any other! However, this means that we will need all hands on deck! In the next few weeks, I will be sending out a sign up sheet for shifts at the Up the Orgs booth. While we will try to have an officer at the booth at all times, I ask that all members sign up for a time slot to help the officers out.
College Disc Golf season is rapidly approaching as well. With the schedule 2023-34 poised to release in the next few days, our innagural CDG season draws near. We will release our schedule of events at the first meeting of the year. If you would like to participate in the College Disc Golf competitive season, contact an officer or attend our first meeting!
Speaking of the first meeting, this is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday August 30th at 7 pm. Location is TBD at this time, but we will update you all as soon as a location and time has been confirmed. THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW AND EXISTING CLUB MEMBERS!!! Permission is required to miss the meeting, or you will be removed from the club.
The UDDGC will be hosting is first major event on Sunday September 3rd. The first annual UDDGC Combine will take place at Belmont Park and will be a fun and friendly way to test your skills and become familiar with the game. This event will not be required to attend and sign ups will be available on 1850 at the start of the year.
We will also be hosting 2 tournaments in October as fundraisers for CDG travel. The Mystery Flyer Challenge will be tentatively hosted on October 7th at Belmont Park. Sign ups will take place on Disc Golf Scene at this link: dgscene.com/MysteryFlyerUDDGC.
The second event will tenatively take place on October 29th. The Tricks and Treats Doubles will be a fun day full of challenges and prizes! Sign ups and more information also found on Disc Golf Scene at this link: dgscene.com/UDDGC-Tricks-and-Treats.
Flyers in Action
It's been a long summer of competition, and it's time for a long overdue recap of events!
First up in May, the Cap City Amateur Open. Congrats to President Ryan Almassy and Officer Kevin Brun for their top-20 finished in MA1 and congrats to Vice-President Andrew Watt for a 2nd place finish in MA2! The Scott Burnett Open was played in May as well where Andrew Watt picked up his first ever win in MA2! Ryan Almassy also took a top-25 finish in a field of 100 players!
After a quiet June, tournament play ramped back up for the Flyers in July. Ryan and Kevin followed up a strong start to the season by both finishing top-10 in MA1 at the Caesar Ford Amateur Championships. The Nati Big 3 followed the next weekend with a top-5 from Kevin Brun in MA1 and a top-10 for Andrew Watt in MA2 in a field of 50 and 70 respectively. The final bit of action from the summer was the Echo Valley Open where all club members were playing MA1. Ryan Almassy forced to playoff for the win but was unfortunately bested in a hard fought battle. Huge congrats on the 2nd place and congrats to Andrew Watt for a 4th place finish and to Kevin Brun for a 7th place finish!
We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus in a few weeks and are excited for the year ahead. There are so many plans we have for you all that we cannot wait to share! See everyone on August 30, if not before!
Until then, keep on discing!
